  Frequently Asked Questions

What does “hospice appropriate” mean? If your doctor has determined that your
condition is progressing and that curative measures are no longer in your best interest,
you can have hospice services. Generally, a diagnosis of six to twelve months survival
time without further medical intervention is considered “hospice appropriate”.

Isn’t hospice just for cancer patients? This is a very common misconception about
hospice.  Congestive heart failure (CHF), chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD),
Alzheimer’s Disease, dementia, neurological abnormalities, are just a handful of the
diagnoses that may qualify a patient to receive hospice services

How old do I have to be to qualify for hospice? Hospice care is not related to the
client’s age.  Hospice is appropriate for anyone who is experiencing their end of life.
Sadly, disease can strike at any age, and hospice is there for you when you need us.

Who pays for hospice? RH accepts Medicaid, Medicare, insurance, and private
  pay sources.  RH will
never turn anyone away for an inability to pay for services.
We are lucky enough to receive donations from many sources, usually patient’s families.
This fund allows us to cover services in the event a patient has no other pay source.
(For information on making a donation, please call 1-800-280-4139.)

What does a Medical Social Worker do? Medical Social Workers (MSWs) are trained
to help you deal with emotional issues that are related to illness and coping.  Our MSWs
can help ease your stress related to financial concerns, as well.  MSWs can help identify
pay source you may not be aware you are eligible for, help arrange to pay a utility bill,
or maybe even help acquire a gas card for a caregiver. Our social workers can also help
  you make final arrangements.

Can you help me keep my house clean? Certainly! Part of our special treatment
includes homemaker services.  Our aides can do light housekeeping and even prepare a
light meal for you.  Help with bathing and personal care are also just a small part of what
our aides can do for you.
